Clare Hall Boat Club Single Sculls
This website contains the rules for using Clare Hall Boat Club's boats for one rower. It contains information on how to book the single boats and who are approved rowers who are allowed to take the scull out without a bank-party.
Rules
- You must be a good swimmer before going out in a single boat. There is a much higher likelihood of you falling into the water in a single than in an eight. If you cannot swim you will not be allowed to use the singles at any time.
- You must go out with a one-on-one bank party who is on the approved list until you are approved to go out in the single by yourself.
- During term you must always have a bank party, even if you are approved.
- The boat should always be carried by two people, one carrying the weight near the riggers and one at the bow.
- When putting the boat back the bow should always point towards the boat house.
- Please be sure to lock the boathouse door diligently.
- To be approved, you must have gone out in the single at least 5 times and have rowed for at least 1 hour in total in the single.
- To be approved, you must be competent in steering, setting off, preparing all gear before rowing and in general just row properly.
Approved List
The club president maintains a list of rowers that are approved to be a bank party for someone who is still a novice and who are allowed to take out the single boats by themselves (you must still carry the boat with 2 people). If you wish to be added to this list contact clarehall.captain@cucbc.org.
